Ultimate 2 days trip to Volcanoes National Park – Rwanda: Volcanoes National Park, also known as Parc Nationale des Volcans (PNV), is the only park in Rwanda that houses mountain gorillas.  This park provides visitors from all over the world with the opportunity to spend up to one hour in the company of these gentle giants, a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The 2 day gorilla trek in Rwanda is a short gorilla safari that is nicely designed for tourists who would like to have a less strenuous gorilla trekking experience in Rwanda in short time.

Volcanoes National Park is reached after 2 hours 30 minutes drive from Kigali via road and 35v minutes by air. These itinerary targets visitors who are already in Rwanda, especially in Kigali, or those arriving at the airport early morning on the first day and departing late evening on the second day.

Trip highlights

Day 1: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Your Rwanda tour guide will pick you up from either a hotel or Kigali International Airport and transfer you to the park. when you opt for a brief Kigali city tour, it will include visiting historical and traditional attractions such as the Kigali Genocide Memorial and some craft centers. After the city tour, you will have lunch then drive to the northwest of Rwanda for a gorilla trek. The drive takes you through Rwanda’s breathtaking landscape. You arrive in the park in the late evening, check into the pre-booked accommodation for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park and transfer back to Kigali.

Your driver-guide will pick you up from the lodge after breakfast and transfer you to the park headquarters in Kinigi, where the park guides conduct a briefing on the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking activity in Rwanda.

After the briefing, you will proceed to the starting point with you park ranger/ guide by 8:00 a.m. A total of 8 trekkers is allocated to a particular gorilla family, particularly those who have already fulfilled all the necessities of participating in the gorilla trekking activity, like having obtained a Rwanda trekking permit which costs USD 1500 per person and is 15 years and above.

It takes approximately 2-6 hours for each 8 individuals to travel through the dense bamboo forested jungles, accompanied by armed ranger guides to complete the trekking excursion. Nevertheless, the trekkers are allowed only one hour in presence of the mountain gorillas. The duration of the expedition depends on the movements of the gorilla group;
After the trek, you’ll return to the park headquarters, where you meet the tour guide for a transfer back to Kigali. Drop off will either be at your hotel or Kigali Airport for your flight.
