5 days Rwanda gorillas and wildlife, Travelers on this 5-day wildlife safari will visit two of Rwanda’s most prominent national parks, one of which is Akagera National park, Rwanda’s only savanna park, where they will witness the country’s lush woodlands and vast savanna grasslands as they enjoy various wildlife creatures  up close, and the other is Volcanoes National Park, where they will embark on a trekking adventure to  and spend an hour interacting with the gentle giants (mountain gorillas) and also get to learn about Rwanda’s culture and tradition at the Ibyiwachu cultural centre. The trip starts and ends in Kigali.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali and transfer to Akagera National Park- sun set boat trip

On the first day of your five-days Rwanda gorilla trekking and Akagera wildlife safari, you will to be picked up from your Kigali hotel, or directly from Kigali international airport. You will be driven through the breathtaking rolling terraced hills of the land of a thousand hills to Akagera National Park.

depending on your arrival time, you will check into the accommodation for lunch and later go for an afternoon boat cruise on Lake Ihema. expect to see different aquatic animals including hippos, crocodiles and birds. At the lake shores, you will spot some elephants and antelopes quenching their thirst.

Day 2: Full day game drive

After a morning breakfast, with your packed picnic lunch, embark on a morning game drive starting in the southern sector of the park for rewarding wildlife views and later  in the northern sector after your lunch.  during the days expedition, expect to encounter the Big five including the Lions, elephants, buffaloes, leopards, cape buffaloes and the recently introduced Rhinos along with other animals including giraffes, warthogs, waterbucks, zebras, hyenas and different antelope species. Expect to also see over 500 species of birds that are found in this park.  After your adventure return to the lodge for   relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Rhino tracking and transfer to Volcanoes

After an early morning breakfast, embark on the newly introduced activity rhino tracking. this activity is done with the accompaniment of armed park rangers. Visit the Kilala plains to enjoy watching the white rhinos at a reasonable closer range.  Follow the guides instructions for a safe adventure. The activity lasts for 2 to 2.5 hours.  return to the accommodation, at noon, have lunch and then set off for Volcanoes national park via Kigali. optional: you may decide to have lunch in Kigali.  Arrival in Musanze will be in the late evening hours, check in at the accommodation for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Gorilla tracking and Iby’iwacu cultural center visit

Prepare sufficient energizing snacks and drinking water, proceed to the park headquarters of Volcanoes National Park for a briefing prior to embarking on the gorilla trekking excursion in the jungles of Volcanoes National Park. Following the briefing, you will be prepared to proceed into the forest in looking for one of the habituated mountain gorilla families. When you finally find the mountain gorillas, you will be allowed one hour to observe them while gaining insights into their various behavior’s, including feeding, mating, and grooming, among others. Later return to the Lodge for lunch and relaxation.

After lunch, if time is by your side, embark on an evening visit to the Ibyiwacu cultural center for an interesting insight into Rwanda’s Culture and tradition. Enjoy the folk tales, drums, iron smelting, craft work, traditional leadership, cultural dances and drama.

Day 5: Transfer to Kigali and departure

After breakfast, check out, meet your driver and return to Kigali with an enroute Kigali city tour in which you will visit the Kigali museum, and genocide memorial sites, and any craft centers for souvenirs. Lunch will also be served in Kigali on this day. You will be dropped off at your hotel in Kigali or at the airport for departure.
