Day 1: Arrival in Kigali (Rwanda)

A guide from Active African Vacations will welcome and greet you at Kigali airport on arrival, brief you about your eight-day tour in Rwanda and Uganda, then drive you to your hotel for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.

Budget accommodation: Airgo residence Kigali.

Day 2: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Park

After break fast, drive to Bwindi national park in Uganda crossing Via Katuna /Cyanika border. An evening community walk  or Batwa experience  are optional  in the afternoon.

Day 3: Gorilla trekking and transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Get up early for breakfast at your accommodation, then head to the Bwindi national park headquarters with your guide and your packed lunchbox. Attend a briefing on how to behave during your trekking adventure.  You will be led by knowledgeable rangers and guides to venture into the dense, impenetrable forest to find the unique and fascinating gentle giant apes. After spending one hour with them, taking pictures and learning about their habits, return to the park centre for a trekking certificate and later set off for Rwanda’s volcanoes national park.

Accommodation: Red Rocks Campsite Musanze.

 Day 4: Golden monkey trekking and transfer to Lake Kivu

Following an early morning breakfast, your driver will transfer you to Kinigi park headquarters   for a briefing about the golden monkey trekking excursion. From the park centre, you will proceed with a short drive to the starting point just outside the park.

This activity takes lesser hours compared to gorilla trekking. Golden monkeys are easily spotted in the bamboo forested areas of the park. Once you find them, watch them feed as they pluck bamboo shoots add sometimes going round in the potato fields which are one of their favorite feeds. After this memorable adventure, return to the starting point to meet your driver. Later transfer to Lake Kivu (Karongi). Relax by the lake with sun set views.

Day 5: Tea plantation experience and transfer to Kigali

After an early morning breakfast, visit the tea plantation for to learn the tea growing, harvesting and processing to consumption. At the end of the visit, buy some finished product for take home. Later connect to Kigali.

Day 6: Transfer to Akagera and afternoon boat cruise

Start the day with a brief Kigali City tour visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial site and Kimironko market. Later drive to Akagera national park. In the afternoon, take a boat trip to lake Ihema where you will watch out for different wildlife including, hippos, crocodiles and several waterbirds.  you will also spot other animals   quenching their thirst at the shores.

A night game drive is optional on this day.

Day 7: Full day Akagera national park exploration

Begin your day with an early morning breakfast, start your game drive in the southern sector of the park towards the north.  On this day, expect the big five, lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and rhino. More animals to be spotted in the park include Masai giraffes, zebras, and numerous antelope species, alongside over 500 bird species. More animals can be sighted in the northern part of the park especially in the Kilala plains.  Spend the evening at  the campsite reflecting on the days exploration as you share  knowledge with other travelers at a campfire.

Day 8: Transfer to Kigali -City tour and departure.

Today after a relaxed breakfast, you will return to Kigali but through the park doing one last game drive or return for a mid day city visits to places you missed on day 6. Visit the craft centers for some souvenirs and then drop off at the airport for your flight.
