This journey will come to a halt in the thick, misty, and impenetrable forests of Bwindi, best known for being home to almost half of the total world’s population of endangered mountain gorillas and the only national park where you can have the gorilla habituation experience, particularly in Rushaga sector.
Gorilla habituation refers to the process of making gorillas used to human presence in preparation for gorilla trekking.
This process takes about 2-4 hours and is carried out in a group of 4 individuals including researchers, trackers, and guides, unlike the usual gorilla trekking that is done in groups of 8 individuals. During this activity, upon locating the gorilla family under habituation, you are allowed 4 hours with the gorillas in their natural habitat watching them go about their day-to-day activities from the time they leave their nest and watching them feed.

Day 1: Transfer from Kigali International Airport to Bwindi
Day 1 of 2 days gorilla habituation in Bwindi, A professional English-speaking driver’s guide will pick you up from Kigali International Airport at 7:30 am and start your journey to the border from where you will cross over to Uganda. After a short drive within Kigali, you will stop over for a visit to the Kigali genocide memorial site where you will get to learn about the 1994 Rwandan genocide. After this visit, you will pick up a packed lunch within Kigali then proceed with your journey to the border. At the border, you will visit the exit immigration offices for Rwanda and the entry immigration offices of Uganda after which you will be allowed into the country. You will continue with your scenic drive within Uganda as you advance from busy and crowded towns to thick vegetation and hilly landscapes as you approach Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Upon arrival in the national park, your driver guide will take you to your lodge where you will check in and enjoy an evening of relaxation, then later dinner will be provided after which you can take your rest for the night.

Day 2: Gorilla Habituation
Day of 2 days gorilla habituation in Bwindi, A nourishing breakfast will be made available very early in the morning and after this, your driver guide will pick you up and take you to the headquarters at Rushaga from where your gorilla habituation adventure will start. Ensure you carry enough water, snacks, and a packed lunch from the lodge for this activity. At headquarters, you will be briefed about the code of conduct and what to expect on this adventure. After the briefing, in the company of rangers, researchers, and trackers you will embark on your journey into the forest in search of the gorilla family being habituated. You are advised to hire a porter to help you with your luggage though they come at a cost. Once you find the gorilla family assigned to you, you will be given 4 hours with them during which you get to learn a lot more about them compared to what you would in the 1-hour you get with them on a gorilla trekking safari. Gorilla habituation in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park costs 1500 USD.
After this, you will return to the starting point where your driver guide will pick you up and then you start another scenic drive back through the border to Kigali where you will take your flight to your next destination.
