Day 1 Arrive in Entebbe, Transfer to Kibale National Park

Welcome to Uganda! You’ll arrive at Entebbe, a city on the northern end of Lake Victoria famed for its warmth and laid-back culture. However, you won’t be able to stay long since as you arrive at the airport, a driver will pick you up for the seven-hour trip west via Entebbe to the slopes of Kibale National Park. It’s an extended drive, but you’re going to stop along the way for meals as well as to stretching  your legs.

The Great Apes of Uganda and Rwanda,  at some point in time, you will reach Kibale. This 296-square-mile (776-square-kilometer) park protects the virgin evergreen rainforest and has heights as high as 5,249 feet (1,600 metres). This tropical ecosystem supports a diverse range of flora and animals, the most well-known of which are the park’s 13 chimp species. Kibale also has several unusual and uncommon primates, such as the red colobus, L’Hoest’s monkey, grey-cheeked mangabey, black-faced vervet monkeys, baboons, and more.

Day 2: Kibale Chimpanzee Walk

You will be able to participate in the most popular activity here tomorrow: a guided tour to observe these animals in their natural habitat. Should you have time today, you may visit the adjacent Bigodi Wetlands Sanctuary. You will walk along boardwalks through papyrus forests teeming with 130 bird species, colourful butterflies, eight different varieties of primates, and the unique semi-aquatic sitatunga (antelope). After that, head to your hotel to rest up for tomorrow’s expedition.

However, chimps are not the only strange species you are likely to witness on this trip. Other woodland creatures to keep an eye out for include elephants, wild pigs, and colourful birds like the Abyssinian ground thrush, African pitta, and collared apalis. At the end of the journey, you will return to your accommodation.

Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

After a leisurely breakfast, you will get back into the four-wheel-drive vehicle and embark on the seven and a half-hour journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, which is located at the southernmost point of Uganda. The picturesque journey will take you past the famous Ishasha section of Queen Elizabeth National Park, where you may see wild games such as the legendary tree-climbing lions, which are only found in East Africa.

Your journey will eventually bring you to Bwindi, where you will check into the mountain resort that you have reserved. This UNESCO World Heritage site is a pristine ecological and botanical ecosystem that spans 128 square miles (331 square kilometres) and is situated on the outer edges of the Rift Valley. It protects ancient rainforests that are home to approximately 400 wild mountain gorillas, accounting for roughly half of the total global population of these apes. You’ll go out to attempt to find them tomorrow; for now, have dinner at the lodge and then retire to bed.

Day 4: Bwindi Mountain Gorilla Trekking

Day 4 of 7 days great apes of Uganda and Rwanda adventure Starting early in the morning, embark on a trek that will take you deep into the park in the hopes of spotting groups of mountain gorillas. The misty mountains’ unusual geography makes this one of the few spots in the world where you can witness these animals in their natural habitat. The forest in this area is referred to as “impenetrable” because of the numerous bamboo trees and densely developed cover of plant growth that have, throughout history, prevented outsiders from penetrating the groups of gorillas which live there. Today, however, your guides will lead you directly to them. During the first part of the experience, a safety training is given at the park headquarters. This briefing covers the appropriate and inappropriate ways to engage with the gorillas. Following the briefing, your party will reconvene and, along with researchers and guides, walk into the forest

Once you’ve located the gorillas, you’ll spend up to four hours watching them. The guides will point out the apes’ behaviour as the researchers observe their social interactions. If the conditions permit, you may assist the researchers in collecting samples, naming primate group members, and possibly attempting a couple of the 16 different varieties of gorilla calls. Afterward, you’ll return to the lodge.

Day 5: Transfer to Mgahinga, Batwa Cultural Experience

After breakfast, depart from Bwindi and make your way southward for a drive of around two and a half hours to reach Mgahinga National Park, which is situated on the border with Rwanda. The first section of this gorgeous journey is on a well-kept road that weaves between hills and verdant valleys. As you approach Kisoro, you will be treated to breathtaking vistas of the Virunga Mountains. From there, the road wanders through the countryside, past little villages and verdant fields.

The Batwa Experience constitutes your final destination. The purpose of establishing this educational centre was to facilitate the transmission of the traditions and history of the Batwa people to the next generation. They were indigenous people that lived in the Bwindi forest, but they were forced to relocate as a result of efforts to preserve animals. Tourist visits now help to fund the community’s healthcare and education programmes. During your tour, a local guide will take you on a trip through living history. It starts south of Kisoro in a cave at the foot of Mount Muhabura. From there, you’ll embark on a guided tour through the woodland. You’ll learn how the Batwa hunt with bows and arrows, how to make a normal meal, about the forest’s many medicinal plants, and listen to traditional music and stories. At the end of the day, you will be transferred to a nearby hotel.

Day 6: Golden Monkey Safari

As you continue on the the Great Apes of Uganda and Rwanda this morning join us for another incredible animal encounter. Mgahinga is home to mountain gorillas, but it also has a variety of other primate species, including the famed golden monkey. These unusual monkeys can only be found in the volcanic Virguna Mountains of this region and are distinguished by their brightly coloured coats.

After arriving at the park headquarters, you will be given safety training before beginning your hike through the mountain’s jungles and bamboo woods. Once you’ve located a group (which can include up to 60 people), you’ll have four hours to observe their behaviour. Then it will be time to walk back to your hotel.

Day 7: Transfer to Entebbe & Depart

The conclusion of your magnificent zoological tour of Uganda has arrived, which is a great disappointment. Wake up early and begin the 10-hour drive back to Entebbe. Don’t worry, there will be plenty of stops along the road to rest, eat lunch, and take some final shots. One of the highlights of the trip is a station that is located directly on the equatorial line, where you may cross over into both hemispheres. Eventually, you’ll arrive in Entebbe, where you’ll board your aircraft home. Come back shortly!
