The park covers an area of 970 square kilometers, consists of bogs, swamps, grassland and bamboo forests. The forest sits on an altitude of 3000 meters above sea level and spreads all the way to the border with Burundi, DR Congo and Lake Kivu.
Nyungwe forest National park houses over 13 primate species, 275 bird species, mammals and trees. This nature park offers several adventures such as chimpanzee trekking, colobus monkey tracking, canopy walk, guided nature walks and birding safaris among others.

Day one: Pick up from Kigali to Nyungwe national park- Canopy Walk.
Pickup will be at your residence, hotel or at the airport in Kigali. After a simple briefing from the guide, you will set off to Nyungwe National Park. A stopover will be at Butare to visit the king’s palace museum in Nyanza to enjoy Rwanda’s kingship culture and tradition and at the Kamegeri rock. lunch will be in Huye and then proceed to Nyungwe. By 3pm you should be at the park center for the canopy walk. Along this suspended bridge, you will enjoy the forest canopy several wildlife creatures especially those that spend most of their time in the forest tree branches. expect to see birds, monkeys and countless tree species. The walk takes approximately 2 hours.
Later check into the accommodation for relaxation dinner and overnight at Chimpanzee lodge.
Day two: Chimpanzee tracking and transfer to Kigali.
Wake up early for an early breakfast as you prepare for an adventurous day for tracking the primates. Chimpanzee trekking starts at 5 am. This because meeting the primates is not guaranteed. An early start increases your chances of finding the primates in their nests.
The park rangers /guides at Uwinka visitor center will brief you and later lead you into the forests jungles to search for these endangered apes. Chimpanzees in this park are f trekked from either Uwinka or Gisakura park centres the forest is said to house over 500 chimpanzees. Chimpanzees move as they wish and you will have to follow them through the forest, but they are easily located by their hoots and loud screams You will have one fruitful hour of encounter as you take photos and enjoy their daily activities as they feed and play. The activity takes up to 4 hours depending on the location of the primates that day.
After the encounter, return to the accommodation, check out and travel back to Kigali.
Drop off will be at your hotel or the airport.
